2015 NBA Draft Lottery Breakdown – Lets Get Crunk (Ep. 4)

On today’s episode of Let’s Get Crunk, Jaleesa discusses the NBA Draft Lottery, her opinions on the lottery teams, players, and the big losers and winners.

The draft lottery has been a tradition for the National Basketball Association since 1985. 2015’s draft lottery went as expected, but there were some bumps in the road for some of the teams. After months of speculation and sports analyst debates, the 2015 NBA Draft Lottery has finally ended and basketball fans can rejoice. After the NCAAB National Championship game a few months ago, we all were wondering if players were going to enter the league early and if so, where would they land.

For teams like the Los Angels Lakers and New York Knicks, they needed a bit of luck with their picks as both teams respectively have faired horribly for the last few years. Theoretically, the Knicks where projected to go second in this year’s draft. For teams like the Minnesota Timberwolves, or the Philadelphia 76ers, this draft lottery is all about rebuilding the team with younger players. The 76ers are one of the teams that have been rebuilding for some time, but things just haven’t worked out in their favor. This may change with the 2015 and 2016 draft. For the last few years, the 76ers have been trading players left and right and getting many draft picks.

This is where the 2015 draft lottery predictions get interesting. In this year’s draft lottery, the Sixers could possibly get three picks, which is unheard of, and if you’re wondering how, check the breakdown in video form below. If the Lakers’ pick would have fallen to either the 6th or 7th position, they would lose their picks. Also, the Miami Heat’s pick would have been up for grabs if they get picked at the 11-14 spot. Both teams would forfeit their respective picks to the Sixers.

Now that we’ve got all of that out of the way, here’s this year’s lottery picks.

1. Minnesota Timberwolves

2. Los Angeles Lakers

3. Philadelphia 76ers

4. New York Knicks

5. Orlando Magic

6. Sacramento Kings

7. Denver Nuggets

8. Detroit Pistons

9. Charlotte Hornets

10. Miami Heat

11. Indiana Pacers

12. Utah Jazz

13. Phoenix Suns

14. Oklahoma City Thunder

As you can tell, most of the picks went as planned, but the Lakers didn’t lose their pick to the 76ers. Ironically, it went up and move to the number 2 spot. The New York Knicks’ hopes of getting the number 1 spot was short lived with them being picked to go 4th. The Sixers didn’t get three top lottery picks, but they didn’t lose out either. Most draft lottery predictions from sports analysts projected they’d receive the third spot – in which they did. On a side note, the Sixers are in a great spot. They didn’t need the top two players this year, since for the past 2 years, they have drafted for center positions anyway.

This year’s draft will be action packed with two of the best big men in college sports from last year. What’s even crazier is that they’re only freshman. Karl Anthony Towns and Jahlil Okafor were the top two dominant big men in their respective conferences in college, but now they both have decided to declare for an early draft. Towns is a versatile big man who can do it all. He can shoot a nice jumper, is offensively posed, a defensive blocking machine, and is an all-around good player. Okafor is a big time player offensively, big hands, footwork, and has crazy court vision when throwing the ball from double teams out of the post. As much as he is great offensively, his defensive attributes are at question. He doesn’t have great footwork, he is big at 275 lbs., but is short for his position at 6’11, and he also has a hard time guarding players on the pick and roll, which is something he will need to work on heavily this year wherever he lands.

Out of the top ten picks, I feel that Justice Winslow may just sneak into the top five after watching the draft lottery.  We may also see Minnesota, who has never held the number one spot before, mix it up and trade the pick away. Though, I feel that’s highly unlikely, but you never know. In this day and age anything is possible.

1. Karl-Anthony Towns C Kentucky

2. Jahlil Okafor C Duke

3. D’Angelo Russell PG Ohio State

4. Emmanuel Mudiay PG China

5. Kristaps Porzingis PF Latvia

6. Justise Winslow SF Duke

7. Mario Hezonja SF Croatia

8. Willie Cauley-Stein C Kentucky

9. Myles Turner PF Texas

10. Stanley Johnson SF Arizona

People in the gaming community believe that women and gaming don’t mix well. Jaleesa Foster, AKA Crunkgirl711, challenges this statement and brings "hardcore female gamers" to the forefront. Hailing from the small town of Lancaster, SC, Jaleesa has taught many old school gamers that it doesn’t matter what sex you are; we are all gamers, we love our addictions, and we could care less what outsiders think. She’s an open-minded gamer with a special love for sports games like NBA 2K, NBA Live, and Madden to the Uncharteds, God of Wars, and the Infamous series. She is a dork, gamer, artist, and geek by destiny, not by choice. Yeah, she’s awesome. Enough said.
