2016 is going to be an immaculate year for Japanese Role Playing Game fans across the globe!  While there are numerous JRPG titles launching this year, I have accumulated a list of my top 3 highly anticipated JRPGs that are set to release in 2016. Be prepared to immerse yourself into numerous worlds, new and old, as these titles fly off the shelves this year.

Final Fantasy XV (PlayStation 4, Xbox One)

Release date: 2016 TBA

The anticipated wait for Final Fantasy XV is almost over! As a lifelong Final Fantasy fan, I have been impatiently waiting for this game since it was first announced in 2006 as Final Fantasy Versus XIII. I already knew that I wanted this game right from the get-go, but after finishing the Final Fantasy XV Episode Duscae demo, that initial want quickly turned into a need. I fell in love with the AXB (Active Cross Battles) battle system, the character design, the side quests, the scenery and so much more. Square Enix has stated that they plan to announce an official release date this March. By the end of 2016, we will all get to follow Noctis, Ignis, Prompto, and Gladiolus as they overcome the trials they face in the newest Final Fantasy adventure.

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth (PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita)

Release date: February 2nd, 2016

As a child, I whole-heartedly believed that the Digimon gods above would one day send me down a Patamon of my own. Unfortunately, that never happened. However, the video game gods (specifically Bandai Namco) answered my virtual prayers and wishes again and again over the years with numerous video game titles based around these incredible digital monsters.  This time, Bandai Namco is back with a brand new nostalgic story to tell! Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth follows a teenager who must solve the mystery of what is attacking not only the real world, but also the digital world. With the help of his Digimon, this teenager must battle a group of hackers to make life normal again.

World of Final Fantasy (PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita)

Release date: 2016 TBA

As previously stated, I am an avid Final Fantasy gamer. Though, I have yet to play a Final Fantasy game that looks like World of Final Fantasy. World of Final Fantasy was announced at E3 2015. This chibi-sprite game looks incredibly adorable, but do not surpass the fact that there is a real storyline to this game outside of the “cutesy” graphics. Not only that, but it has an ATB-style combat (Active Time Battle) which mixes menu-based combat with real-time turn gauges, this being a heavily associated fighting style within the Final Fantasy video games. I am already infatuated by the story of the twins who enter the world of Grymoire, but I am even more excited to see some of my favorite characters from previous Final Fantasy games thrown into the mix. Any game with Cloud Strife in it is a game I will make sure is included in my video game collection! I hope this title exceeds all of my expectations and more.

There are so many JRPG’s expected to release this upcoming year such as Persona 5, Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness, Bravely Second: End Layer, and many more!  I wasn’t lying when I said how amazing this year was for us JRPG fans.

So with that I ask, what JRPG’s are you looking forward to the most this year?

Final Fantasy XV. Is where its at , i liked the turn base but the removal of it i think will give it more depth and you own style to the game play .
