Update: Reported by MSN, Hiroshi Yamauchi died in a hospital in central-Japan this morning from pneumonia.

It has been reported and confirmed that former president of Nintendo, Hiroshi Yamauchi, has passed away this morning. At this very moment, we know little details regarding his death. My condolences go out to all of the people who knew and loved Mr. Yamauchi. He has definitely contributed to some of the best gaming experiences I have ever had in my life as a video game enthusiast and also in the lives of many others. Mr. Hiroshi Yamauchi, president of Nintendo from 1949 until 2002, the man that lead Nintendo from the era of humble trading card company to video game giant, paved a way for many video game makers and visionaries that came after him. May his memory live on.

Nia has been gaming for about as long as she could hold a controller. Growing up with experiences like Super Mario Bros 1 – 3, The Legend of Zelda, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Streets of Rage, she was bound to blossom into the lovely specimen you see before you. She loves the classics but will play anything that requires buttons, a d-pad, or analog sticks. She hopes to one day leave her mark on the gaming industry as it has helped impact the person she is today.
  • I only knew of Miyamoto as the guy in charge at Nintendo, but if this guy had any contributions towards the awesome gaming experiences I had growing up, then it is greatly appreciated. RIP

  • Miyamoto is a developer for Nintendo, but because he’s been there for so long, the higher ups often ask him for guidance and advice. Mr. Yamauchi is responsible for his hire.
