Happy New Year from SheAttack! We hope you had a great 2014 and are ready to make 2015 even better! It’s easy to see that 2015 looks GREAT for consoles on paper. Sony fans are looking forward to the many exclusives coming to the PS4 such as Uncharted 4, Bloodborne, and The Order: 1886, Xbox One owners are anticipating games like Halo 5 and Quantum Break coming this year, and not to mention, the Wii U is looking pretty with future releases like Zelda and Star Fox.
As I look ahead to the coming year in gaming, there are games that speak out to me for the good and also for the bad. Let’s start with the good!
I have this feeling people will really enjoy The Order: 1886 even with its lack of co-op – something I really hoped for. If co-op was indeed there, this game would be a shoe-in for gamers that love shooters. But even so, I think those who enjoy an action-packed 3rd person shooter like that of Gears of War will enjoy this game. As for the game I choose to deliver and live up to the hype, it has to be Batman: Arkham Knight. This game looks absolutely gorgeous and looks to live up to the expectations fans have of the series.
In 2015, I feel that Nintendo and Microsoft will show me legitimate reasons to own their current generation systems. The Wii U is definitely on my radar this year because of the new Zelda and Star Fox announcements. As for Microsoft, I’m looking forward to what they are going to show at this year’s E3. A hint at what the next Gears of War looks and plays like would top E3 for me in a heartbeat. If it looks as glorious as I’ve imagined it, that Xbox One will be in my future.
Now lets talk about the bad, because it can’t all be perfect. There’s always that one game, shrouded by hype, that comes crashing down to its reality. If I had to predict which game that will happen to this year, it’ll have to be The Division.
This game has me feeling skeptical for a few reasons. Ubisoft has been in the dog house ever since Assassin’s Creed: Unity was released in a complete mess and when Watch_Dogs didn’t live up to expectations in 2014. At this point, the obvious question is, “Will The Division have the same issues?” When The Division was first revealed it looked gorgeous, and will probably still look great, however, until we see more of its potential quality, it may stay in the list of games to be worried about.
Another game that has me worried is Turtle Rock Studio’s upcoming shooter Evolve. Running after and trying to kill a monster in a 4v1 showdown still sounds great on paper, but in reality it may not be exciting enough for everyone. Not only that, but after experiencing the disastrous alpha on the PS4 and being unable to play, my hype for Evolve has dwindled drastically. The idea of this game being online focused has me worried about 2K’s servers not delivering a properly working online experience at launch.
I definitely expect problems, but let’s hope I am proved wrong!
Another game that I feel won’t be for everyone is No Man’s Sky. Hey, I’m still wondering what the heck this game is about, but I feel once we finally see it and have it in our hands, some of us may realize we over-hyped and over-thought this game’s capabilities. My prediction for No Man’s Sky is a hit or a miss depending on who you are. The exploration in No Man’s Sky will either widen our eyes with delight or with complete confusion – and possibly boredom.
As for everything else this year, there are many games I’m looking forward to such as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D, Rainbow Six: Siege, Uncharted 4, The Order: 1886, Star Wars: Battlefront, Inside, and Ori and the Blind Forest.
I think 2015 is going to be one of the best gaming years we have had in a while and I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds.
My predicted Game of the Year for 2015 is The Legend of Zelda for Wii U. What is yours?
