[Updated] Nintendo Reveals Codename S.T.E.A.M., New IP for 3DS

And Apparently Abraham Lincoln Will Make an Appearance…?

Codename STEAMToday Nintendo has revealed new IP for the Nintendo 3DS. They’ll finally be talking about the IP they registered some months ago, Codename S.T.E.A.M.

The game is a cel-shaded turn-based strategy game with unique elements from action games. The setting takes place in 19th century London where you and your squad fight aliens. This game is being developed by Intelligent Systems with Hitoshi Yamagami as the head of this project. Apparently the character design in Codename S.T.E.A.M. is based off of American comics such as those created by Jack Kirby and Bruce Timm.

According to Yamagami per the Polygon live blog, “Players will take command of the unit steam a unique fighting force created by Abraham Lincoln to defend against a mysterious invasion from space.”

Another quote from the Codename S.T.E.A.M. event:

“We turned again to action games, to first-person shooters. The thought process between a strategy game and a shooter are quite similar. You get some information about the environment and then you come up with a plan and then you execute a plan. You do that in a linear fashion in a game like Fire Emblem. In a shooter you have to solve problems in a nonlinear fashion.”

A Codename S.T.E.A.M. demo will be shown on the Nintendo Treehouse Live at E3 tomorrow.

That’s all of the news I have for you guys today! I can’t wait to see it in action tomorrow!
