This year, Erica represented SheAttack at E3! It was our first attendance to the big show and we look forward to attending more in the future. Now that E3 2015 is all said and done, Erica is now starting the tradition of our very own E3 Awards here at SheAttack! She names off games that win the categories of Best Presentation, Best Reveal, Best Surprise, Best Indie, and Most Fun!
From high potential indies to triple A titles, E3 was nothing short of remarkable this year. There were many game reveals that had many gamers thinking this was the best E3 in years so it wasn’t easy picking these winners by no means! Which games stood out above the rest and impressed at this year’s E3? Watch and see who wins!
Halloween is just around the corner so here are some simple costumes any gamer can pull off.
NBA2K15 is out today and naturally gamers want to try out the new face scan feature in the game’s character customization(as shown above). One problem: It isn’t working very well and is making customized players look like the MonStars from Space Jam.
It’s not a secret in my circle of friends that I used to hang out in the forums of MyIGN, the IGN official gaming community, quite a bit back in the day. I was in college and many of the people that I talk to on the internet I met through MyIGN. Nia, as well as some of the girls here at SheAttack are from that same site. Now it’s been a year, and an interesting and fun one at that!
Today, SheAttack celebrates its 1st birthday! The staff has decided that we would reflect on our time here on the site and so I would like to share my experience with you. From the day I started here at SheAttack up until now, I have learned a great deal and I expect to learn much more as I pursue my goal of becoming an even bigger part of this industry.
I have always been proud to represent this site because SheAttack represents our passion as gamers. Not only that, but SheAttack has been a true representation of equality, proving that women can be a big part of the gaming industry. I have always wanted to be a part of something that brings change and inspiration and SheAttack has been just that. I really do hope that we inspire everyone, regardless of background, sex, or race, because I am inspired everyday by people in this industry. I am thankful I have an outlet that not only lets me express my passion for gaming but also gives me the opportunity to do something I was born to do; write.
I have been writing for most of my life, since I was very young. When I was a kid, I wrote stories about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Batman saving my family and I from evil villains. When I was a teenager, I would take songs I loved and replace the lyrics with my own. As a young adult, I switched my writing to poetry, expressing my deepest darkest feelings as I felt them, being a young person trying to find place in this world. I’ve always loved to write so when Nia asked me to be a part of SheAttack, I was very flattered and humbled. For a few hours I pondered whether to join or not and then determined I couldn’t let the opportunity pass me by.
During my time here at SheAttack, I’ve continued to stay humbled as I struggled with writing articles and progressed to find my rhythm. I found a new sense of appreciation for writers because I now was one. I’ve also learned my stance on issues by having personal tug of wars on many articles with questions I had to ask myself: Do I stay objective? Do I try and please everyone? Will this get backlash? How will Xbox fans respond to this? How will Nintendo fans respond to this? Will this hurt my credibility? These are questions that do come up sometimes because my content can be interpreted a thousand different ways. For example, the fact that I just now didn’t give an example of a question involving Sony, could make someone question if I’m bias towards them. It’s that easy.
I can’t control how someone will interpret my articles but one thing I can control is remaining honest. I’ve learned that I really can’t please everyone and trying to do that would just be a headache. The truth is I am very opened minded with gaming. I grew up playing a lot of different systems so I appreciate all of them, even when I had my preferences. However, that doesn’t mean I won’t call a spade a spade. If a company does something I don’t agree with, I will voice that opinion. Something else I have learned during my time here at SheAttack, is that I can’t project myself to love every piece of news when that’s simply not the case. That’s no fun to write or read so sometimes you gotta stand up and say “I don’t like that.” I’d much rather read honesty than something trying too hard to please and just like with my Youtube channel, I produce content I myself would enjoy. Basically, if I would click it, I will write it. That is my own personal policy.
Two things have contributed to SheAttack’s growth; you the supporters, and the women behind it. We have had many meetings and discussions about how we can make this site better, and even more importantly; how we can individually utilize our strengths. We have built each other up as this site has risen from the ground up. SheAttack has opened doors for myself as well as everyone else on this site, allowing us the opportunity to network and attend events such as CES and PAX. On top of that, writing for SheAttack has really shown me how supportive this community can be. There has been a ton of support for us and for that, I thank all of you for taking time out of your day to read our content.
Each of us are here for our passion for gaming and we hope that it inspires you to follow your passion and make your dreams come true. I will end this reflection with a quote. This past week, my uncle whom is an avid gamer and reader of gaming websites text me some really great advice. He said, “Instead of “click bait,” the writer should be the click bait.” In case anyone is wondering what “click bait” is, it’s a reference to an eye-catching (but sometimes misleading) link or title, that encourages people to click the link and keep reading. It’s arguably a “cheap” way to get views. His text really motivated me because it dawned on me how right he is, and ultimately I really do want people to read our articles here at SheAttack not because of just an eye-catching title, but most importantly because they want to read our content.
As we celebrate SheAttack turning a year old, this advice given to me was very timely so I had to share. I hope that no matter what your goals are, that you aim to be remembered not for “click bait” but for who you are. I am so inspired to continue my work here at SheAttack and I hope you stick around for the ride! Once again, thank you for supporting SheAttack!
During another hilarious #SheAttackAfterDark episode this weekend, the ladies and I hopped on the topic of good-looking male video game characters. Here is my top 10 list of personal favorite male characters in RPGs. Note that this is my personal opinion and I’ve chosen these characters based on overall character, as well as looks, on who I am more attracted to. There is no order here, only hot guys from video games.
Before we welcome the next generation of gaming, we thought it would be a great idea to pay tribute to the great games of this generation. What better way to do so than to give you our Top 10 games from this generation! Here at SheAttack, we pitched our favorite games based on our experiences with them and then we all voted on those games. Here is the list we came up with!
Beginning October 1st, 2013, our website layout will change colors. We will also be hosting a Twitch.tv event on October 18th and 19th to raise money that will aide in breast cancer research, education, screening, treatment, etc. SheAttack will be donating 70% of the proceeds to the Susan G. After seeing the trailer for Remember Me at New York City Comic Con (NYCC) 2012, I was intrigued to say the least. At the expense of appearing biased, I couldn’t wait to experience a female protagonist of African ancestry kicking some ass. From the trailer, Nilin seemed like a awesome character that had a cool story, plus she did something totally different than simply shooting at random enemies. She had the ability to alter and manipulate human memories. However, after getting my hands on this title, I’ve realized that where this game succeeds in ambition, it counteracts with the many flaws found in the overall gameplay experience. Remember Me is a great game that has struggled to be set free. The following is my review of the game that had much potential that was not realized.
