It’s no secret that the Wii U has had a terrible year – decent launch, but terrible year. This situation is extremely frustrating considering that Nintendo had an entire year ahead of the competition to put out convincing content on their 8th generation system and they totally dropped the ball. We’ve heard for months now to wait it out, that the content was coming, and we just needed to have some patience, but many of us have grown tired of waiting. Beyond tired even. Some have decided to call it quits with Nintendo by trading in or selling their Wii Us! Fortunately, all of the waiting will cease in the next couple of weeks.
In the beginning of August, one of Nintendo’s most anticipated 1st party titles will be releasing in North America – Pikmin 3. Shortly after that, we’ll be seeing games like The Wonderful 101, Super Mario 3D World, Rayman Legends, WiiFit U, Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze, The Legend of Zelda: Windwaker HD, Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut, Sonic Lost Worlds, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Watch Dogs, and others. All of these games will be coming in the span of about 4 months! That’s about 3 games per month!
To some, the games listed above may not be enough to warrant a console purchase, but to those of us who already have a Wii U and aching in anticipation for games to play, this is a good thing! I’m not certain how the Wii U will fare this fall against the competition, but by itself, it may do quite alright. Pikmin 3 is selling consoles left and right in Japan. Let’s hope that North America also sees the value in this fledging console in the months ahead.
I’m personally excited for Pikmin 3, as it’s one of my favorite Nintendo franchises, and I’m also looking forward to playing most, if not all, of the games mentioned above. Wii U owners, how does this list of upcoming games make you feel about the Wii U’s future? Non-owners, are you convinced to purchase the console? Let me know in the comments below!
