It is a truth universally acknowledged that a gamer in want of mercy shall receive no mercy.
These deaths initiate fandom wars, turn kin against kin and are the root cause of Kleenex shortages around the world. The developers revel in the chaos produced as they plan their next epic death. When a character dies, a small piece of the player dies as well. Now, while the same can definitely be said for our favorite TV series, when you actually control your little sprites fate, and watch them fall… It’s too much.
Read no further if you have not yet completed Red Dead Redemption, Assassins Creed 2 MORE, L.A. Noire, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 or The Walking Dead (which one)! I’m giving you due warning now so you won’t end up in the fetal position (or at my doorstep) later.
Top 5 Video Game Deaths
5. Red Dead Redemption’s John Marston
After sending his family off into the sunset to save their lives, John Marston hesitates at the door that stands between him and certain death. While I had the hardest time accepting the fact that there was no way in heck I could take out all of the gunmen, I sure tried. Mr. Marston died fighting; for John, that was without a doubt the way he wanted to go out.
4. Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood’s Lucy Stillman
Sure Lucy was an Abstergo mole but…that face just before Desmond stabbed her! Juno needs to use her words before she resorts to stabbing. That goes for everybody, okay?
3. L.A. Noire’s Cole Phelps
We all make poor decisions in times of stress, but to just stand there and wait for an oncoming monsoon is not what I would consider a poor decision – it’s just plain ridiculous. I was really just altogether unprepared for Cole’s demise but
preventable death by oncoming drainage water? Lets just say I needed a new TV after this one.
2. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3’s Soap
Soap, a Call of Duty fan favorite, lived and died, a hero. Perched in a hotel, Soap was positioned with Yuri sitting in wait for Makarov. An unforeseen infiltration occurred and explosives sent the hotel up in a flurry of debris, hurling Soap and his comrade out of the building. Falling on the distant ground below, Soap’s wound from Shepherd reopens and leads to his ultimate demise. Objectivity was key with this one, Soap became so much more than a character!
1. The Walking Dead’s Lee
Clem! No! Ah! Right in the feels! There’s really nothing else I can say for this one, it honestly was way too painful.
