Tyson recalls more than 8 million pounds of pre-cooked chicken in US
Tyson Foods announced a massive reminder involving more than 8 million pounds of precooked chicken products on the risk of Listeria contamination. The recalled products were produced from 202020 to 2021 and can still be in many consumer freezers. Some diseases have been reported jointly with the reminder, including a death.
The announcement of the remainder comes from the USDA (FSIS) food safety and inspection service. It is a Class I recall, which means that it has been designated as “average or high risk” when it comes to the potential of “serious and unfavorable consequences of health or death”, according to the department of American agriculture.
About 8,492,832 pounds of precooked chicken products have been recalled because of possible contamination of the Listeria, including objects such as chicken strips, chicken for the Fajitas, baked chicken with low sodium chicken, roast chicken. Oven, wood seasoned chicken, dark-skinned chicken strips, and suite.
Some of the recalled products are sold as Tyson, while others are sold with Jet’s General Store’s Pizza brand names, Marco Pizza and Caesars. According to the notice of reminder, the products were shipped across the United States to a variety of destinations, including retailers to hospitals, restaurants and even defense department facilities.
The USDA FSIS worked with state and CDC health officials after being alerted to two listeriosis infections on June 9. The agency connected diseases to certain pre-cooked Tyson chicken products, as well as identifying three infections, one of which was fatal. The USDA says it is concerned that some consumers can always have these products in their freezers.
The notice of reminder can be found on the USDA website, as well as a list of recalled products [PDF] including date codes, product codes, packet sizes and product names. The reminder notes that these products should be returned for a refund or discarded.
