How to step off a long haul flight looking and feeling refreshed
If you have ever flown on a long haul flight, you will know how tiring it can be and how we are generally not looking or feeling our best when we arrive at our destination. However, it does not always have to be like this. It is possible to make a few simple alterations to the way you travel that can make a big difference to how you feel both physically and mentally when you land – even if you are traveling in the cheap seats! Here are some top tips.
Make your airport experience stress free
The preparation begins even before you get on the plane. If you can minimize the amount of stress you feel while you are at the airport, this will carry over onto the plane. So for example, be sure to leave your house in plenty of time to ensure you are not rushed, organize your seattle tacoma airport parking in advance so you do not have to worry about finding a spot, and check in to your flight online to speed the process up. You can also make going through security a breeze by keeping your ID and boarding pass close by and wearing shoes that are easy to slip on and off.
Pack the right toiletries
It is easy to let hygiene slip a little when on a long haul flight, but that is a big mistake. Pack a travel bag of mini toiletries (making sure they are under the liquid size limit!) to help look after your body and feel comfortable during the flight. This includes a toothbrush and toothpaste, moisturizer, lip balm and any other of your favorite essentials. If you normally wear contact lenses, swap them for glasses during the flight to let your eyes breathe and stop them drying out. Try to avoid wearing too much makeup on the plane too – you can always touch it up before you land!
Be careful about what you eat and drink
We all know that what you put into your body affects how you look and feel, and this is just as true on a plane as anywhere else – if not more so. Hydration is key, so be sure to drink plenty of water both on the plane and in the days running up to your flight. Likewise, it is best to avoid having too much alcohol, coffee and salt because these can all contribute to dehydration. Fill up on healthy snacks such as fresh fruit instead to give your body the best nutrition.
Create the best sleep environment possible
Getting some good sleep on a plane will make all the difference to how you feel when you land, so invest in a quality travel pillow, a sleep mask, a blanket, noise canceling headphones and anything else that will help you to doze off. Comfy clothing is a must here and you might also find a meditation app or audiobook helpful for distracting you from your surroundings. If traveling across time zones, try and adjust to the local time of your destination from the moment you get on the plane in order to minimize jet lag.
