Rashmi Rocket: Taapsee Pannu’s New Movie Gets an OTT Release Date

Good news for those who have been waiting to watch Taapsee Pannu starrer Rashmi Rocket. The sports drama film will be available for online streaming from October 15 on ZEE5. The movie is directed by Akarsh Khurana and is produced under the banner of Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP, Neha Anand, Pranjal Khandhdiya and collectively via Mango Purple Media Network. Rashmi Rocket movie will be available on the OTT in Hindi for ZEE5 premium members. The film shooting took place in the heart of Gujarat and was officially wrapped up on the 26th of January, 2021. The film is inspired by the struggles of women athletes and the humiliating gender verification practices they are subjected to.

It tells the story of Rashmi Vira played by Taapsee, a village girl and a fast-runner who goes on to fulfill her dreams of becoming a successful sportswoman. On her way to the top, she wins many medals in her name and sets goals for her future. However, her life takes a nasty turn when she has to forcibly take a gender test to prove her identity. Rashmi fails the test because of Hyperandrogenism. It is a medical condition in which women have a high testosterone level, almost the same in men. She is deemed ineligible and gets banned from competing in women’s sports. Despite the hurdles in her life, she plans to fight back by filing a human rights lawsuit against the Sports Authority.

Rashmi Rocket Cast

Apart from Taapsee, Priyanshu Painyuli, Abhishek Banerjee and Supriya Pathak play prominent roles in the sports drama. Taapsee impresses with her acting chops as fierce Rashmi while Priyanshu Painyuli looks dapper as an army officer and Rashmi’s husband. The veteran actress Supriya Pathak plays Taapsee’s mother in the film. Actor Abhishek Banerjee plays the role of a lawyer, which is quite different from his previous roles. He will appear in the courtroom drama along with Supriya Pilgaonkar in the role of a judge.

Movie Trailer Release

The trailer of the film was released on the web on September 23. In the Rashmi Rocket trailer, Taapsee is seen in a very athletic physique looking like an actual sportswoman. Her character Rashmi is a strong-headed woman who moves through intense emotions in her journey for justice. Taapsee went through rigorous training for the role of an athlete. Releasing the trailer on her social media she wrote, “On your marks aur get set toh ho chuka hai , ab bas go hona baaki hai. Rashmi, rocket ki speed se aa rahi hai aaj 6:30 baje! #TrailerOutToday on #Zee5 (sic).”

The actress received huge appreciation for her performances in the trailer and she took to social media to express her happiness with a photo of her smiling on a race track. Sharing the photo, Pannu wrote, “Had I known this amount of love will come in I would’ve kept this expression more constantly on track! #RashmiRocketTrailer out now! (sic).”

While Rashmi Rocket delves into hush-hush territories and dealing with gender-testing practices in sports, it hopes to be a path-breaker, primarily because it is based on a tricky and sensitive topic. The ZEE5 Original film is written by Nanda Periyasamy, Aniruddha Guha and Kanika Dhillon and is slated to be released this Dussehra on the ZEE5 OTT platform. So, let’s hope Rashmi Rocket becomes a massive success on the platform.
